Alton Abramowitz merged his practice with Harold Mayerson in 2006. Their practice has evolved into the nine lawyer matrimonial and divorce law firm of Mayerson Abramowitz & Kahn, LLP. Recognized by his peers for many years as one of the leaders of New York’s matrimonial bar and an accomplished divorce lawyer, he currently serves as Chair of the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. During 2012 -2013 Alton was the National President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has been listed for many years in both annual publications Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. His opinions and comments on a range of divorce and family law topics are often quoted by the national and local news media. Alton has lectured and written on many family law subjects for numerous bar associations and various legal publications, was one of the foremost advocates favoring the reform of New York’s divorce laws by the enactment of “no-fault divorce,” and recently participated in the ad hoc working group that developed the Spousal Maintenance Guidelines adopted by the New York State Legislature. Alton has important positions in leading bar associations, including past Chair of the Matrimonial Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association, past President of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and past Co-Chair of the Matrimonial Law Section of the New York County Lawyers Association. He is also a diplomate of the prestigious American College of Family Trial Lawyers, which limits its membership to 100 lawyers from across the United States. Also, Alton was appointed as a member of the Matrimonial Advisory and Rules Committee of the Chief Administrative Judge of the New York Office of Court Administration.
